Project Rose 2011-2012

This
year’s Project Rose is Sweet Fragrance from the Easy Elegance collection.
The internationally recognized hybridizer Ping Lim is at the heart of this
collection. The roses from this collection are naturally disease resistant
and bloom all season long. They
are grown on their own root stock making them hardy for surviving colder
climates.
Sweet Fragrance is a
Grandiflora. The description in
the Easy Elegance catalog quotes—“Hybrid tea-shaped buds in tropical tints
of coral and orange with a deep yellow base swirl open to full, sweetly
fragrant, apricot blossoms.
Each bloom matures to salmon-pink adding interest with the range of color.
Clusters of buds and blooms are held on sturdy canes, making them
perfect for cutting. A
vigorous, upright growing rose with excellent disease resistance.”
This rose will be
available to order at the October and November meetings of the CT Rose
Society for $15. Roses ordered
will be ready for pickup at the April meeting for early spring planting in
2012.
This year’s Project
Rose will be exhibited later at the September 6-pack
informal rose show rather than the
major Rose Show in June. It was
felt that with more time to grow and develop, showing this rose at a later
date would promote a discussion and give a more accurate evaluation of the
Project Rose Sweet Fragrance.
