Featured Rose of the Month October 2005

Cherry Parfait
Grandiflora

Photo: Dave Candler

"Red Blend"    White, edged with red/strawberry.
ARS rating: (7.8)               New 2003
introduced by The Conard-Pyle Company
Hybridizer: The French House of Meilland hybridized Cherry Parfait.

Positives:  disease-resistant, good re-bloom during its first year, and delightful in yard or vase.  Large decorative flowers.  Dense, dark green, glossy foliage.

The plant will be over 4 feet tall, and 4 feet across.  Two to five blooms per stem.  The fragrance light, and the petal count 35.

In my garden the blooms have been the most consistent and frequent of any bush in my garden. The plant has been disease free (with spraying), and is reputed to be naturally very disease resistant.  The color is similar to Double Delight, but in comparison, there are more blooms, bigger plant, more bushy than Double Delight. Whereas DD is a hybrid tea, and can have pretty good exhibition form, Cherry Parfait does not tend to provide an exhibition center, but often balls (but not always, as seen above).

Very much recommended- the color and texture are outstanding!  It has become my favorite Garden Rose, and the rose bush that visitors flock to first.
