How long is the winter in Hartford , CT ?

The table below shows the long term data for Latest date in spring and Earliest date in fall for the temperatures shown.
Using 28 degrees may be more appropriate for roses, whereas 32 may be of interest for plants like tomatoes in the spring or the demise of Impatiens in the fall.
The numbers 10, 50 and 90 are the percent confidence levels that the event will occur.  Such as: there will be only a 10% chance that there will be a 32 degree frost after May 26,  and 90 percent of the time there will be a 28 degree freeze by November 5th.  There is a 50% confidence that the non-freezing growing season will be at least 167 days.

Useful for New England planning?  Probably not very useful, at least for roses.  But instructive and interesting.  And we can hedge our bets on the positive and state:
There is a 50-50 chance it will thaw by May 13!!
