Photos of Some REAL Knockouts!!!!

Knockout, the shrub rose, is well known for its disease resistance.  It has not received great publicity for late season blooming and beauty.  But, your Webmaster travels around the state of CT a great deal by auto.  And this fall (October 2006), the plantings of Knockout have been particularly noteworthy!  There are three houses within five miles of my home in Southeastern CT that have beautiful displays of the rose, even this late in the year- and this is afer several overnight freezes and after the fall maple leaves are mostly past prime and blown onto the ground.  Displayed below are two of these plantings, in both cases along the roadside.  Even more interesting, about 1/3 of each bed is within attack distance of the snowplows of last winter, and the ice, sand and salt thrown thereby.  These are both second-year beds, I believe.

Moral: Knockout is very late lasting in the fall.
