4/7/03: Whither Funginex???  Whither Daconil???

An astute rosarian stated at the April meeting that Funginex, a commonly used rose fungicide, is no longer available!  Bill Turell, who's in the know,  indicated that it is now relabeled "ORTHO RosePride Rose & Shrub Disease Control".  This is the sub-title on last year's Funginex bottle, btw.  Going a bit further, to the www.Ortho.com site, and drilling down to the newly named product you can view the new bottle.  Checking the Active Ingredients, however, it says:

"Active Ingredients: 29.6% Chlorothalonil".

On the other hand, going to the detailed label information page, it says "6.5% Triforine", like old Funginex.  When I asked ORTHO, Customer Service and her Supervisor were strong in the belief that Triforine is, indeed, the Active Ingredient.  They did not know of any chemical named Chlorothalonil.  And they promised to checkout the discrepancy and get the website info revised, as necessary.

MITYMWTK (More Information Than You May Have Wanted to Know):

Active Ingredients: 29.6% Chlorothalonil is the Active Ingredient in the New "Ortho Garden Disease Control", formerly known to rosarians as Daconil.
